Apple is reportedly testing a number of new technologies for its impending flagship smartphone, the iPhone 8, according to multiple sources.

The iPhone 8 is expected on the 10th anniversary device this fall. However, the new revolutionary technologies could possibly delay the Apple iPhone 8’s release date by one or couple of months after it is revealed because of supply limitations.

Apple is apparently testing an all-new iPhone design with an all-screen on the front panel, curved glass and a stainless unibody steel frame. The revamped design features of the iPhone 8 mentioned by the multiple sources are similar to previous iPhone 8 rumors. On Monday, the Japanese technology blog Mac Otakara reported that the iPhone 8 would come with stainless steel frame to hold together the front and back glass panels of the smartphone.

As for the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus, these devices are expected to equip with an LCD display panels, much like the previous rumors have suggested. For the Apple iPhone 8, the report claimed that Apple will use an edge-to-edge OLED screen display provided by the South Korean OEM Samsung, echoing a recent Nikkei report which stated that Apple placed orders for about 70 million OLED display panels from Samsung. However, the Bloomberg report said the Cupertino-based technology giant ordered around 100 million display panels from the South Korean tech titan. The DigiTimes reported recently Apple inked a $9 billion two-year contract deal with Samsung for OLED display supplies.

The report also noted that OLED display for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are much larger than that of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, respectively, released last year, but will have an overall touchscreen display size closer to the iPhone 7.

Apple will reduce the smartphone’s bezel size by embedding the digital home button into the screen display via a software like the in the Samsung Galaxy S8, sources close to the matter said.

Pacific Crest Securities equity research analyst recently stated that Apple will likely ditch its plan of embedding the Touch ID Home Button into the iPhone 8 display. A note to investors from an analyst at Cowen and Company last week said Apple’s biggest concern amongst iPhone 8 latest features was embedding the Touch ID into the display. He added that the firm could either get rid the idea as for now or delay the production of the iPhone 8.

Apple is testing a more advanced camera sensors for the iPhone 8. For the main rea-facing camera, the company is reportedly testing versions of the iPhone for better photographs by positioning the dual-camera system vertically instead of horizontally on that of iPhone 7 Plus. The world’s most valuable tech company is apparently having a pilot study of the dual-lenses for the selfie shooter, an upgrade from the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which have single camera sensor. Apple has explored equipping an augmented reality-based features and depth-of-field enhancements to its iPhone camera system.

The iPhone 8 this year will run an iOS 11 mobile operating system that will “include a refreshed user-interface,” the report claimed. The iOS software update is expected to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Jose, California by June.
